Oatmeal gives recipes a nutritious and healthy flavor and it helps to bind hamburger recipes in the same way as breadcrumbs do. Making a hamburger with oatmeal is also cost effective because the meat goes further when you add the oatmeal, without the flavor being compromised. The following hamburger with oatmeal recipe also calls for onion and mushroom soup mix to add a nice vegetable flavor to the hamburger recipe. You can use plain onion soup mix if that is what you have in the kitchen. The diced onions in the recipe help to keep the hamburger juicy and they add some crunch. This is quite a plain hamburger recipe but you can liven it up with a slice of cheese or some salad on top of the burger.
Ingredients -
2 lb ground round or hamburger meat
¼ cup diced onion
1 cup Quaker oatmeal
1 package onion and mushroom soup mix
Salt and black pepper
8 whole wheat or onion buns
Preparation:
Combine the ingredients and form the mixture into 8 patties.
Grill them over a medium low heat until they are cooked through.
Do not have the grill too high or they will burn.
Toast the hamburger buns and serve a hamburger with oatmeal inside each bun.
Serve ketchup and mayonnaise on the side so people can help themselves.
